What Are Primitive Reflexes?
Primitive reflexes are automatic movement patterns present in infancy that help support early development. As a child’s nervous system matures, these reflexes should integrate, allowing more advanced motor, emotional, and cognitive skills to develop.
When reflexes remain active, they can interfere with learning, coordination, behaviour, and emotional regulation.
Who It Helps
Primitive reflex integration can benefit children who are experiencing challenges with attention, coordination, learning, or emotional regulation. When early reflex patterns remain active, they can influence how a child’s nervous system processes movement, sensory input, and information needed for learning.
This program may help children who show the following signs:
- Struggle to sit still or maintain focus
- Appear clumsy or have poor coordination
- Find reading, writing, or schoolwork difficult
- Tire easily during academic tasks
- Have poor posture or low muscle tone
- Avoid sports or physical activities
- Experience frequent frustration or emotional outbursts
- Have difficulty with balance, body awareness, or motor skills
By supporting the integration of primitive reflexes, the goal is to strengthen the neurological foundations that support movement, learning, and emotional regulation—helping children participate more confidently in school and everyday activities.
